TecMark Side Control - TecMark Top Control, 3 Button with Temp Display
Inquiry posted on 11/21/04 I purchased this side control along with the Spa Babes 1000 (120v) controller, pump, blower, and ozone system a few months ago. I finished rebuilding the spa and finally got it up and running last night. I cannot, however, figure out how the controller thermostat and this side control work together, because I was not sent the owner's manual for this side control. Can you shed some light on this issue for me, or maybe send me a copy of the Tekmark owner's manual? I believe I should leave the SB1000 Thermostat set to max, with the switch set to auto filtration and heat, and use the digital side control to regulate the spa temp using the dial on the Tekmark. I do not know if this is correct, so any help you can provide would be great. Thank you.
Response NO, leave the spa control thermostat in the lower (OFF) position and let the top side control turn the heater on/off depending on your temp setting.
Inquiry posted on 11/24/04 Is there any way this assembly can be combined with an old spa with Brett EHEBRT105B to have a digital thermostat control system. I'm not worried about the blower function.
Response Yes. All I do for that is to attach the orange wire from the plug (where it plugs in) socket, directly to the black one so the readout will have power.
Newer conventional systems usually have a switch on the side of the spa control that performs this action for the TekMark side controls. The orange wire only supplied a "blower light" to say "the blower is on" - which in my opinion was pretty much a disposable option considering the air blowing out from everywhere.
Inquiry posted on 12/08/04 Is the adapter plate, Tecmark number 20205AA for this spa side control available?
Response yes, call to order adapter plate separately with the topside $16 for the plate
Inquiry posted on 01/10/05 I have an older spa that a friend gave me - the name plate on it is "Baja". Can I use this controller with this spa? I'd like to replace the heat control knob and pressure switch - will this control unit do this for me/
Response If it's got a 5 or 6 pin large plug on the end that looks like what's in the photo then yes it will.
Your pressure switch? I'm assuming you're talking about the push buttons. Yes, this will work perfectly for you.
Inquiry posted on 02/13/05 I am curious, how many digits does the display show.. IE would it show "104.3" or just "104"
Thank you
Response Single digits. No decimals.
Inquiry posted on 03/03/05 I just bought one of these from you to replace an older control. The problem is the heater will only turn on when the blower is on, and that is the only time that the temperature will read out (with blower on). light and jets work fine and I can turn heater on off when blower is on with the temp control. Please help?
Response On older spa control systems, a small modification is necessary to make the temperature and display function work properly.
There are 5 or 6 wires inside the spa control panel on this plug-in.
Green: Ground (on 5 wire systems this one is not present)
Black: L1 (or L2 on 230 V Systems)
White: L2 (or Neutral on 115 V Systems)
Yellow: Jets Indicator
Red: Call for Heat
Orange: POWER to Thermostat system. (On older spa control systems this was the blower indicator light).
In previous model spa control systems, the orange wire was the spa BLOWER indicator light. Tri-Delta/TecMark has changed this with this topside control unit.
What I do to make this thing work properly, is inside the spa control unit itself, find the black and orange wire from the spa topside six pin plug and tie them together, (power turned off when this is done of course). This will supply L1 directly to the orange lead which activates the digital thermostat and all is well. Digital temperature display and 24/7 functionality.
This should fix your problem.
(PS: Note that later models of spa control systems have an integrated switch for Len Gordon/AquaSet -vs- TekMark which solves this problem without a wiring modification).
