| Packed sand base instead of cement pad? |
hey I'm the new owner of a giant 7' x 14' spa. The previous owner had a frame of 2x4 filled with sand and leveled for the base. Would this be enough support and leveling for the spa?
The foot well on the spa is pretty much the entire bottom of the spa so it's very well supported on it own. I just dont want to pour a concrete pad if at all possible. thanks! |

Well trial by fire seems to be the way to go with this one. A packed sand base it is. Building up a 2x4 frame with a bunch of cross supports and filling it with sand this weekend... |

Ares how did this work out for you? I'm thinking of doing the same thing. |

Re: Packed sand base instead of cement pad?
I would have a cement pad or a solid stepping stone base for the footwell. |

Re: Packed sand base instead of cement pad?
I do not see why it wouldn't work, however I would place some paver stones on top of the sand to keep the moisture from travelling through the cedar casing.
I went a bit overboard when I did my base, poured concrete with re-bar. On top of that since I have a two level deck I had cinder blocks placed on top of the poured concrete base, 3/4 inch plywood, and then the Hot tub itself. |
