Conduit or not?

I am running 4 6AWG wires from my GFCI box to my hot tub in liquid tight flex conduit. Do the wires need to be in conduit once inside the hot tub skirting, or is it ok to run the wires without conduit to the control box? It is approximately 8' from where the wires enter the skirting to the control box.

Thanks, Dan

Some locale's you can get away with it. But I always err on the side of caution, besides it looks so much better with the flex run all the way to the terminating connections.

It is always much safer and more professional to do so.

At an install about a month ago a customer of mine had loose main power lines under the spa just like what you speak of... & had rat/squirrel damage. They had chewed thru a bunch of stuff, including the loose individual power wires that were run from the house inside the spa.

Had a water leak inside the tub, and all the water puddled under the spa was electrified since he had no GFCI on it - and it was no fun to find this out!

So definitely, if it were me, I run the conduit to the controller and I'd use the biggest flex I could find too because that 6 gauge mess is a b@#$*.

Thanks, I will put the wires in conduit. I have 3/4" liquid tight plastic flex that will work great. The #6 wire is very frustrating to work with.

Ouch.
I'd never use 3/4 with combo 4 six gauge... (ya can but!) that's rough. 1" is so much easier ha! Good luck with it.
