| GCFI KEEPS TRIPPING FOR HEATER-HOT SPRING SOVEREIGN |
JUST REINSTALLED OUR 2001 SOVEREIGN HOT TUB AFTER SITTING FOR A YEAR. THE 30 AMP GCFI KEEPS TRIPPING AS SOON AS IT IS SWITCHED ON. I HAVE DISCONNETECTED THE POWER FROM THE 30 AMP TO THE HEATER AND THE 3O AMP WORKS FINE AND HOLDS,I REATTACHED THE POWER FROM THE 30 AMP GCFI TO THE TUB AND THIS TIME I REMOVED THE LEADS AND GROUND COMPLETLY FROM THE TUB AND TAPED THEM UP AND SWITHCED THE 30 AMP GCFI BACK ON AND IT TRIPS OVER AND OVER.THIS IS ALL NEW WIRING.AM I TO ASSUME THAT MAYBE ITS THE WIRING FROM THE 30 GCFI TO THE TUB THATS MAYBE FAULTY? P.S. IT IS UNDERGROUND AND ITS PRETTY WET AND USED ARMOUR CABLE FOR UNDERGROUND INSIDE PVC CONDUIT.THANKS IN ADVANCE..... " title="Sad" /> |

If you remove and isolate (tape up or use wire nuts) both wires from the heater element, and the breaker holds, replace the element. |

Here's a good start
I am only hoping that what I am reading is an error in your part to identify wiring methods. If you are in fact using "Armor" cable and it is installed underground in a PVC raceway, than heres my advice.
I cannot give you an exact number of Electrical code violations that you have before you. I beg you to please seek an proffessional electrician. IMMEDIATLY.
One last piece of advice. The word "wet" should be a huge red flag not only for equipment safety, but for LIFE SAFETY.
Please respect electricity and leave it to the pros. Its not for weekend worriors no matter how much you THINK you know.
Again, I wouldnt even hassle with it if I were you.
Good Luck |
