| New question regarding wiring Asteria 9800 Jacuzzi Whirlpool |
Ok I've changed my mind on going 115 VAC since nobody seems to know how
to convert my tub back from 230, and also I'd like to be able to run the pump
while the heater is going and also heat the water four times faster. The previous
owner was running it on 230VAC so all I need to know is how to hook 230 back
up to it with no other changes.
The previous owner just unhooked everything and left it a mess. Since the cover
to the electrical junction box that's attached to the Jacuzzi Whirlpool control module
is missing, along with the 230 VAC feild wiring instructions, I still have no idea how
to wire this thing. What I have in the junction box are three of six connections that
have wires. Near the top is a copper wire coming out of the control module that connects
inside the module to a bonding bar with green wires attached. Near the bottom I have
a purple wire coming out of the control module and a red wire that comes out of the module
and connects to another red wire that goes back into the module.
I think all I need to do is hook the black to purple, red to reds, and white to copper, and
then hook the common ground copper to the other bonding bar on the outside of
the control module. And also run a heavy copper from that bonding bar to a burried
pipe in the yard. Can anyone confirm this?
[ System ] COPPER (1) <=== WHITE
[ Control ] (2)
[ Module ] (3)
[ Jacuzzi ] (4)
[ Whirlpool ] PURPLE (5) <=== BLACK
[ Bath ] RED (6) RED <=== RED

Can you post a pic of your board? I beleive your better off with a 220 v setup. You need to have it on a GFCI breaker. |

Thanks, I already plan to install a 50 amp GFCI and 8/3 wire from the circuit breaker to it. Then 8 guage three wire from the GFCI to the tub in conduit. This tub was originally a 115vac setup with the option to make it 230vac. The schematics are inside the door to the control module and I already figured out what I would need to do to switch it back to 115 but I decided I want 230 after all even though it means knocking holes on my newly refinished basements walls to run the wires. If I had the cover to the junction box where the wires actually hook into the tub, I would also have the 230 schematics, but it's gone.
With the 230 conversion already done and apparently done right because I saw it working at the previous owners house before he had his neighbor unhook it, all I need to verify is that I should hook the red hot wire to the red wires, the black hot wire to the purple wire, and the ground to the ground. It's a jacuzzi control unit so I'd be really surprised if this isn't a common conversion that several regulars on here have done or seen. I'll try and get a pic up if no one can answer without it.

Re: New question regarding wiring Asteria 9800 Jacuzzi Whirlpool
Ok here are some pics.
The diagram shows the two reds hooked together and to nothing else under 115vac.
After looking at it more, it looks like the two reds in the junction box need to be separated under 230vac because one now connects to one side of the heater and the other connects to the other side of the heater by way of the internal GFCI. The purple looks like it goes to the pump motor by way of a contactor. The whites are no longer in the junction box, and the black from the junction box under 115vac is now connected to the blue that goes to one side of the heater by way of two contactors. Should one red hook to one of the hots along with the purple, and the other red hook to the other hot? |

More pics. As you can see, at one time someone shorted the 3rd connection from the bottom which was the 115vac black wire. It wasn't me. Lol I flipped the connections over so now the burned one is 3rd from the top which isn't used under 115 or 130. DSCN8440.JPGDSCN8441.JPG |
