Watkins No-Fault retrofit

Does the j-box be moved to accommodate the No-Fault (titanium) replacement heater on a Tiger River spa? It's sure not a bolt on repair. It also has a bleeder fitting that the original didn't have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Watkins No-Fault retrofit

What year and model is it? Not sure what you mean by J box. If you are replacing a Tr-Bend heater then the bleedline from the side now goes to the back of the no-fault titanium.

I just realized you may be talking about an older TR (Kyber maybe) which had a junction box on the floor of the tub and an old 'cartridge' style heater. I usually put something under the feet on the heater to raise it up over the junction box...like a couple of small pieces of PT wood. You will also need a 'retro' kit if you are going from this type of heater to plug the bleed line on the new heater. The kit also has some new hoses and a jumper for the old flow switch.

Yes, it's a '96 Khyber. Please explain what the "jumper" for the old flow switch does. Does the kit come with instructions? Those that came with the heater were poor. Thanks so much for your help.

You don't need the old flow switch because the new heater has an internal type of high limit cutoff in it. The flow switch is one of the three gray connections on the side of the box. The other 2 similar looking ones are the thermistors which go into the new heater, just like the old one. A retro-kit has a jumper plug that plugs into the spot that the old flow switch was plugged into. If you don't have one you can cut the wires on the old flow switch and wire nut them together.

I think the kit comes with instructions but I've never really looked. The main part of it is the flow switch jumper, extra 3/4" hose and fittings for the replumbing, and the plug for the bleedline. You will also need to adapt the electrical cord of the new heater to your plug. I believe that I have some of the adapters that will plug into the control box that you have if you can't figure out how to wire it in as is.

Re: Watkins No-Fault retrofit

Thanks so much for your help. I don't need the plug; I guess I'll have to drill a hole or borrow a chassis cutter and find a moisture proof grommet. How much is the retro kit?
