What will happen if I hook up a 240v heater to 120v?
I'm currently using a spa pump for my swimming pool since the pool pump died. The spa pump has a heater built in the pump, and I have all the electronics to rewire the heater. The heater is a 240v, 6kw. The pump motor is 120v and I only run it on the low speed. What would happen if I hook up the heater to a 120v circuit? Will it heat up at all? I'd rather not run 240v to the pool if possible, and I don't care if the water heats up slower than the 240v hot tub, especially since I don't want the pool to end up at 104 degrees!
Thanks, Jeff
