I am in the process of wiring a hot tub I got the other week. It is a 240volt unit (four wire) with a built in GFCI. It is a 1996 Hurricane products model 60
#1. Is there is a way to test a GFCI that is built into the system.
The install instructions(yes I got almost all the paperwork with it) calls for either a 50 amp GFCI disconnect, or if the unit has a GFCI built in(like mine) just a 50 amp disconnect.
I bought a 60 amp disconnect yesterday and there are the two connections for the hot wires and one (I guess) grounding post(screwed to the back of the box).
#2. How would I attach the neutral wire to this? Or is what I think is the ground actually the neutral? Or did I get the wrong disconnect?
#3. Would it affect the system if I just went ahead and added a 50 amp GFCI in line with the existing one (just to be safe)?

Hi Bwalsh,
Even though Hurricane Products included a GFCI panel mount in their box, it is up to the consumer to follow present NEC codes for their locations.
Code calls for a "Line Side" GFCI breaker.
You will need a #6 copper 4 wire ( Three with ground ) protected by a 50 amp read through neutral GFCI breaker, with a quick disconnect within line of sight, not less than 5 feet from spa.

I already went back and bought a 50amp square "D" GFCI disconnect to mount approx. 10' away from the tub, on the wall of the house. I figured it would be better to have an extra safety switch than not. I don't want to fry myself.
