why is it that my heater wont heat when it is hooked up the the 220 volt. but when i switch it to 110 it works. and also after the jets have been on for like 5 min they turn off for like 3 min and come back on. it is a colman spa

first the heater...

typically when you do a 120 to 240 conversion, you usually have to move the neutral wire from the heater to the L2 on the bus bar, and if you go from 240 to 120, you usually have to move the L2 wire to the heater to the neutral bus.

The motor problem could be a thermal overload in the motor that is shutting it down until it cools and then restarts. This can be caused by worn bearings or excessive load on the motor.

OK THAT MAKES SENSE BUT THERE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I FAILED TO MENTION ON THE ORIGINAL POST BUT....WHEN I TURN ON THE JETS AND BUBBLES THEY STAY ON FOR MABEY 5 MIN AND AFTER THAT THEY SHUT DOWN FOR LIKE 5, AND THEN COME BACK ON AND ETC, ETC. SO WHAT WOULD CAUSE THAT

could be a couple of things to cause that, such as a thermal overload, a timer, a self resetting breaker, air cavitation, etc. So what I would do is first determine if the control cabinet is "telling" them to turn off, or if they are overloading. Can you hear anything running when they seem to shut off? I belive your air is drawn in through your jet's ventury, and not a separate blower, and in that case, it is simply your pump quits operating. Pumps also have their own thermal overload in them. Do a volt meter check across the motor output teminals when the motor quits. If you have power, the motor is overloading. If not, either a self-resetting breaker, timer, or circuit is telling the motor to shut down.
