| Got old spa and equipment free-cannot identify model-worth rehabbing? |
Hello all,
Been lurking here for some time, browsing posts and trying to glean as much knowledge as I could from the experts who post here.
Here is my story...
I got this late model Caldera Spa and all equipment free, as it was pulled off a jobsite where the owner was installing a new horizon pool and spa setup. I estimate it at over 20 years old, at least.
I have visions of rehabbing this previous in ground spa into an above ground unit, with built in bar attached for entertaining. I have a large concrete slab that this will go nicely on, and a framer who has offered to assist me with spa box and pergola gazebo framing. My it looks good in my dream!!
I like the size of this spa, it is quite large, unlike alot of the newer models, which are 6-8 people at max, this thing looks like it could hold 10 with room to spare. I am a bit concerned about the lack of jets though, and am wondering if more can be installed?
As you can see, I also was given all the spa equipment ( probably just as old as the spa) and even the dual pumps and large canister style fliter (buried under too much junk to photograph). My thought was that if I can just scrap all that and purchase a digipak to do it all, that would be ideal.
lastly, I want to replace the old pneumatic controls with a digital topside control panel.
I guess my first question is, is this tub even worth rehabbing? or I am dealing with a base that is too old to even consider upgrading, replacing jets on, etc
second question is, where do I start? I know I should fill it and test for leaks, but provided that it holds water, what is my next steps to bring this unit online?
Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Throw the rola chem and prp/oh controller stuff in the trash.
Or put it up on ebay.
Simply install a new controller/pump configuration on this thing and you'll be ready to go.
This thing should do you right:
