Moving Equipment

Help! I received a free shell like alot of people here from what I've been reading. Got it moved and buried about a foot deep. Moved the pum and blower approx. 27' from the tub, and bought a new ASI Aqua Magic digital spa pack and hooked it up. The spa came with a 230V 1.5HP, 1 speed motor, but noticed that the water well (?) has a 2HP stamp on it. I believe the pump was replaced, just not with the right one. The spa has 5 jets, holds about 6 people, and is roughly 475 gallons I would guess, and then of course the holes along the seat ridge where your legs hang for the little bubbles.

When we moved the equipment, we burried 1 1/2" pvc pipe. When we turned everything on, it work fine. However, the pressure is not as great coming out of the jets as it was at one time years ago. Also, the bubbles from the 1.5 HP blower only work on one of the 5 seating areas.

I have a feeling thatmy problem has something to do with the distance. If so, is a 2HP pump going to give me the force that I need to really enjoy the spa. I don't want to swim against the current (hahaha), but would like to feel more than just a trickle against my back. I talked with a guy in California who said to disconnect the blower and use that pipe so suck from the filter in the bottom side of the spa (under the light). But what about pushing it back to the tub? Please, somebody give me some advice that I can trust!

Thanks!

Lloyd

I think a lot of problem is the diameter of the pipe going from one location to the next. 2" pipe would have restricted the flow less. The pump should have been sized right for the motor, but it clearly was not. When doing a remote location, a good rule of thum is to add 1HP per 20 feet of run. In your case, original motor being 1.5hp, and a 27' run, I would have replaced the pump and motor with a 3hp unit and ran 2" pvc to and from the tub.

Thanks for the info...I appreciate it. Could I go ahead a bump it up to a 4hp pump or is a 3hp going to be enough? I'd like a little more pressure while the pump is on and stirring the water. And if I can, is 2" going to suffice or should I go up to 2 1/2"? Thanks again!

2" would suffice, 2 1/2 would be better, 3hp would suffice, 4 would be better. It is up to you. It's always better to err on the side of larger when considering long runs.
