| Pump ID |
I have a used Weslo/Image/Icon 628 spa that was given to me. After hooking up the tub to 240v and replacing the spa controller, I have had issues with the pump. The pump cycles on/off on speed 1 (like its wire wrong) and runs continuously on speed 2 but the thermal shutoff kicks in after 10-15 mins.
The controller is a Balboa Lite 240/110 convertible. I believe it is set to 220. I have checked the controller and I am getting 120v on the red and black connections depending on the pump speed selected. I even switched the red and black leads on the pump to see if there was any difference. There was... I then got a smooth speed 1 and pulses on speed 2.
I do not have a tag or decal on the pump and don't know if it is a 110v or 240v 2-speed pump. Is there a way to identify what kind of pump the Weslo/Icon manufacturers used? The sales literature that I have been able to find on the net says that it is a 4hp pump and that the tub is to be wired for 240v 30amp GFCI service. I have it wired to a 50amp GFCI at the disconnect box.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

Nope. If you've replaced it, normally everything comes set up for 115 volt pump blower, etc. Follow the white common wire from the pump plug.
My guess is that it's tied to the white neutral coming into the controller.
If so, then it needs to be tied to L2 (usually red) instead in order for the pump to receive the 230 volts it needs to operate. In other words, remove the white pump common from neutral, and connect it to L2.
(Usually, if it's anything more than 1.5 HP, it'll be a 230 volt pump) |
