| RESET button / Flow Switch.'92 Dimension One, Elite - Ultra |
We have a Dimension One, Elite Ultra Tub. Quite nice shape for it's age. It has been very reliable until this winter. We experienced it not running, and I was able to narrow it down to an inoperable flow switch. I am an electrician, and with the power off, there is no continuity, nor is there any with it running - flowing. I believe we have a bad flow switch. I bypassed the flow switch, and got it running. We are in WI, and the winters are unforgiving - it needs to run, or it will freeze. We are now experiencing a new problem, the reset button is tripping. I have a theory, that the water is not flowing at times, allowing the temperature to exceed what it should in the area that the sensor is, and thus tripping off. This has become quite irritating, and needs to be fixed properly.
I wonder what the best solution is to repair this. New flow switch? New flow switch, and electrical control panel? The relay system, i'm sure, has been replaced with something more advanced with new controls available today. The "control panel" that exists, is a rubber covered button for the one light on it, and a rubber covered button for the jets, as well as a dial for the temperature. Not very fancy.
I'm really looking for a schematic as well, to better understand how it works. 240V, 40Amp. I am not able to find one anywhere online - except through a paid resource.
Looking for some input as to what would be the best value for me to invest in. I have never changed a flow switch, and don't know when or if this thing tells itself to run when it gets cold or what. I wonder if this is an option, with new controls.
The tub is very nice when it's working, and very simple, but we've not utilized it much at all since this issue. I need to get it working properly so it can still be used this winter.
Any advice is welcome.
Thank You,

Re: RESET button / Flow Switch.'92 Dimension One, Elite - Ultra
Do I understand correctly that you've been bypassing the flow switch for sometime to keep the spa running???? If the circuit breaker had been tripping, would you have just bypassed that as well?

The Flow switch has failed, open. There would be no heat, and we had -5F for a couple weeks. I am not clear on how the flow switch senses flow on this model. It seems there is NO flow, other than when the blower motor is on, so i'm not sure how it senses anything during normal operation. The breaker is for overcurrent, and GFCI protection. There is also a fuse for short circuit, and overcurrent. This is in series with this reset button. The sizing is very close to what is running on this particular part of the circuit. I believe the reset may be weak, or, there is something i don't understand for "flow" during normal operation. I don't understand how there is any flow, unless the blower is on. Is the Flow switch something that can be changed out, without cutting the plumbing and inserting a new flow switch? Or does the tub need to be drained in order to perform this operation? Would new "guts" provide an option to "flow" the system in the event it got too low in temperature? I don't think this current setup has that capacity. I think it only heats and uses the natural convection / circulation created by the heating of the water. Thank you for your help,
