| Refurbing an older Morgan spa....Need some assistance |
I was given an older morgan spa for free and i plan to refurb it.. I was going to start by giving it a good cleaning and replacing all the jets, switches, and whatever else some of that stuff is as well as some of the not so complicated plumbing and valves that are still attached. What i need to know is...Is there anywhere i can find a manual or documention on how to hook one of these up, heater,blower,filters...etc... What is required, what is not required and so on. I have been looking on ebay but there is so many different heaters and blowers and ozinators? i am not sure what i need as all of this stuff is missing and i have nothing to cross reference with. I can definetley take pics if this will help anyone possibly get me pointed in the right direction so i am a little more educated next time i have questions. This is my first spa and i am clueless. I am hoping to get this one refurbed without spending a fortune to see if we will actually use it and enjoy it. If we do then i will explore the idea of getting a new one (one with a few more than 5 jets) in the future. But for now i am hoping someone here can really help me out or at least point me in the direction of some good info. I have searched the net when i get a few minutes but really havent been able to find anything to helpful yet. Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help!!!

Mike,
I have an old Morgan spa shell that I refurbished last year that sounds similar to yours. I don't have any manuals, but if you can post pictures on what you are unsure of I will be glad to help. Mine did come with a very old pack that lasted a few months, but I did eventually replace with a new pack, pump, and blower, but no ozonator. I assume your tub has air buttons on top to control the pack as mine did, but I also upgraded to a digital topside control when I purchased a new pack. My new pack was easy to install and cost around $650 total for all parts. I would be glad to get you in touch with the company I got mine from as well. Anyway, post pics if you can. My tub had been out of commission for 2 years when I got it. I replaced some cracked plumbing but not any of the jets....

Jason,
Thanks for the reply. Forgive me i f i sound stupid but when you say pack what is that exactly? And yes it does have the air buttons but i was also thinking of just going right to digital since i have to by new stuff anyway. I will post some pics as soon as i can, probably wont be till the weekend since it is dark when i leave for work and dark when i get home from work. If you could let me know where you bought the stuff it might actually be close, i dont know where Bryan TX. is but i am in Carrollton (Dallas) TX. Oh...and i dont know how long this one has been out of commision but the jets got sand or real fine dirt in them they like crunch when you move them around if ya know what i mean so i plan to just replace them. Thanks for the help.

Mike,
Bryan is next to College Station- home of Texas A&M, 1 hour northwest of Houston. I ordered my spa pack from a California company... you can check them out online at bluedolphinspaequipment.com I went to a 3 hp pump from the 1hp it came with, and a 1.5 hp blower and have been very happy. The spa pack is your control unit for your tub. Think of it as the brain of the system. Everything else connects to it and your digital topside control communicates with your pack. What you should need is the pack, pump, blower, and topside control. Your tub is probably plumbed with 1.5 in pvc, and the pack will come with 2 in unions, so you would want to accomodate for that when rebuilding. I installed my tub in a deck, so space was no issue. The kit I ordered is called the IP-15 I believe, but if you search their site for spa packs you should run across one for 650 complete. I will be out of town this weekend, but will check on the pictures when I get back if you cant get them up earlier. Any other questions just let me know.

Here is a few pics. I hope they help, i really wasnt sure what exactly you needed to see if you really need to see them at all. I was looking at spa packs online and found a place called "spaguts.com" that sells packs for 625 with free shipping so either them or bluedolphin it is so far, although its gonna be a little while before i can swing that. I did have another question though, can you wire up two control pads to the same pack, that way both sides of the spa have the same type controls, i would like both sides to match so i dont have one side with old non working controls. If not i guess i could just remove them and put a matching blank on the unused side to match what ever it is i use to mount the new controls. I am thinking either 3/16" thick aluminium plate or 1/8" thick brushed st. steel. Either one i can get scraps from work and i think would make for a clean install.
