Balboa ML 700 main topside panel doesn't function

I have a Balboa ML 700 display and a TS-8000 Mach2 controller on my Thermospa Spa. My topside panel quit working. I get no readout or codes of any kind. No buttons work. At one point I was able to turn the tub lights on, but I think that has stopped functioning, as well.
The Spa works in every other respect. It stays hot. It circulates water and cycles through the auto routine which turns everything on for a couple of minutes. The other two small topside panels control their pumps as they are supposed to. I looked at the circuit board and I see no blown fuses or any other obvious problems. I took out the topside control panel and I don't see an obvious problem with it, though I haven't opened it up. This is about a three year old spa and the main board is less than two years old.
Any ideas? Is the panel servicable; can I take it apart and clean contacts, etc.?
Can I try moving the topside panel connector to one of the spare panel connections on the board and try that? There are three main panel connectors that are available.
Thanks

You can try an alternate plug but generally, once one of these things goes, it's gone.

They're not serviceable - actually rather messy.

Re: Balboa ML 700 main topside panel doesn't function

I have just had the exact same thing happen with my Thermospa concorde which has just turned two years old. Fortunately, the electronics have a three year - 100% guarantee and is prorated a little each year after that. About 25% per year. They had a new one to me in two days. It works like new. They told me that a voltage spike from a storm or moisture leakage causes failure. The device is totally free of any moisture so I think a surge got to it. Good luck with yours.

Re: Balboa ML 700 main topside panel doesn't function

Yes, replacing mine did the trick. I live near Thermospas plant in CT. Thermospas techs came out and did the work but charged me something like $19 for the gasket, which came with the with the panel in a sealed package! They replaced every little thing they could think of and charged a 240% markup for a fuse (I've bought in the past from Home Depot)! They overcharged me for labor, too. I practically stood over these guys and still they tried to rip me off! Arguing with the Service Manager finally made a difference (I had a phone call log to show him when they really arrived), and they gave me credit for buying supplies (which are really marked up), but it ended up being fairly even at the end, but a huge hassle. <img src=" title="Evil or Very Mad" /> I am new to spas, but could have replaced the panel myself. I found it online. Still, I thought, "it's under warranty, how bad can it be?" "I just have to pay for the service call!" BAD Is the spa industry and their service people inherently disreputable? Dickering with the Thermospas salesman left a bad taste in our mouths. Something akin to dealing with car salesmen, repair garages and car mechanics. I'm glad I know how to work on cars (and have a shop I can trust). Frankly, I think I'll be glad when the service decision is not gray and I can work on it myself. OTOH, we enjoy the spa!
