| Contactor not closing. Spa not heating. |
The spa box got wet a month ago and since then the contactor that activates the heater is not closing.
The high and low pump, blower, and light are working but the heater will not heat. I checked the power at the element and there is none, although when I manually close the contactor there is 220v at the element. The hi-limit switch had tripped when it got wet but since its dried out it hasn't tripped. I replaced the contactor with no luck. I by-passed the pressure switch and still no heat. I checked the 2 buss fuses and they are good. I also check continuity at the element and it appears to be good as well. Where should I go from here?
Thanks in advance. |

When the pak is calling for heat, what is the voltage across the coil of the contactor. It should be an AC voltage. |

Re: Contactor not closing. Spa not heating.
If I tested this correctly there is not voltage across the coil. I've also replaced the contactor.

Voltage across the coil will depend on the safety equipment and heat demand, so make sure your high limit and flow switch are closed and the thermostat is calling for heat.

Re: Contactor not closing. Spa not heating.
Hi! If you have no voltage across the replaced contactor then it may be the relay between the source voltage and the contactor many times it's a small black enclosed relay with three or four terminals attached, to which your two element terminals are attached, one may go directly to the contactor and the other may go directly to the element. You must get voltage to the contactor coil for it to pull in and you must get voltage across the contactor to feed the element. |

Re: Contactor not closing. Spa not heating.
Hi: I have a Balboa Lite Leader Control Unit on my hot tub. I have noticed a "chatter" on the heating element relay. Also is there only one relay or two since it is a 240 volt 4000W heater. It looks like it's soldered into the board. Is there anything to do to stop this chatter or can I replace it and how? I'm afraid it will weld shut or not operate at all in the near future. Can I try "contact cleaner" on the relay? I also have a pressure switch mounted on top of the heater tube. Can this switch be a part of the problem? Thanks, knowhair |
