| Electrical Questions |
I just Bought a used 2001 Coleman model 705 spa, The person I bought it from had it hooked up with #6/3 (#6 wire) and had a 240v/50amp breaker in the house and had a 50Amp GFCI box. The manual calls out for a 240v/60 amp breaker. Should I be reusing what he had or should I up the breaker in the house to a 60amp. I have heard mixed input from electricians sayin the #6 cable can handle the 60amp. Or am I better off just using a 50? Don't really want to go through the expense of bying all new cable if I can still use the #6. Should I be using the 50 amp even if the spa manual calls for 60? I have about a 50ft run to the GFCI box.

Re: Electrical Questions
Well, the 6g wire i guess could handle the 60amp, but the 50 I would not think would hurt anything, least with the 50 if you have a big prob with something you know it will/should trip before you melt your wire or burn your house down. you might notice it will get a little warm though. I have 6g wire on my 240v spa breaker 40amp GFCI 50amp. I feel safer with a 40amp then a 50 on the main. I havent had any issues. |
