| GFI trips immediately, works perfect without a GFI breaker |
I have a D4000 Master Spa w/ Balboa control box, immediately upon tuning the breaker on (50amp GFI breaker), it trips. The spa when its connected to a non-gfi breaker works perfectly fine.
I had the GFI verified by the electrican and it is correct and working properly.
Any suggestions?
Thanks ahead of time.

Double check the wiring of the breaker. Most importantly, check the Neutral wire coming from the tub, into the sub-panel. If the electrician wired that neutral wire to the "neutral bar" in the sub-panel, it's wired incorrectly.
It's something you shouldn't have to do, but we get a couple of calls a month for that one, even though licensed electricians have already double checked the work.....
Probably either that, or there is a ground fault, the breaker is working properly, alerting you that something has gone to ground, and you should fix it...
Good luck

GFI trips
Swine,
How should the neutral be wired in the sub panel? Just connect it with a wire nut?
Thanks |

No. A 220v GFCI breaker has 3 terminals, in addition to the permantlety attached pigtail, for a total of (4) connections. The permantley attached pigtail goes to the neutral bar. The neutral wire that runs between the spa pack and the subpanel goes to the neutral terminal on the 220 GFCI breaker. |

I have an Emerald Elite and it's doing the same thing....it's tripping the GFI immediately, but when connected to a non-GFI breaker everything works properly. The neutral is wired properly in the sub-panel, so we're assuming that there is a ground fault.
We've disconnected the blower, heater, and light from the control panel in the tub and the breaker still trips. We had a leak and there was moisture under the tub, but it has since dried.
Can you give any direction on what might be causing the GFI to trip? |

Thank you so much!
I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for the post. My husband and I purchased a Dimension One Spa today (Chairman, brand new, yay!) and were having a crap time trying to get the bugger working. He and my father carefully marked the electical runs, but it still kept tripping. The two men sat around, pulling their hair out, trying everything they could think of. My husband was ready to consider pulling the wires out and starting over when he recommended I do a web search, and VIOLA! I found this post. I read it to him, he tried it, and it was exactly the case. Thank you for saving the 12 hours of hard work - we thought it was all in vain. " title="Very Happy" /> |

My manual says that as long as the circuit is properly grounded (with a grounding rod), that no GFI is necessary. |
