HL Switch tripping when jet pump is on

When I start my spa (brand unknown) everything appears to work fine. However, when I turn on the jets, they work fine sometimes and sometimes the HL switch trips. I reset and it works fine for a while.

The hot tub is approx. 9 years old. I just replaced the continuous circulation pump 1/16HP) because I thought this was the problem. It was also acting up - when the jets turned off it took approx 5 to 10 minutes before the circulation pump would come back on. It now works great accept the HL switch still trips when the jets are turned on.

The water level is good and the heater works fine - set at 103 degrees. There are no leaks.

This is the second time I have replaced the circulation pump and replaced the heater about 3 years ago. oh, also replaced the controls about 4 years ago.

Any ideas on what the problem would be? I would appreciate any help you could give. Thanks.

Sounds like you might have a HotSpring! White shell? Redwood cabinet? One or three filters in a filter compartment with a lid that's the same color a shell material?
Your problem sounds like a crc. pump flow issue. Not enough water going through the heater, tripping the heater high limit. Debris in circ. pump impellor, faulty circ. pump, dirty filter, obstruction in circ. pump line or discharge screen with blockage. Could be any of those.

Thanks for the suggestions Hottub.pool boy. Really appreciate. The spa that I have is a dark green one with redwood panels all around it. It has 2 filters.

I had previuosly replaced the circulation pump and I am still getting the sporadic HL switch trips. Usually happens around 5-10 minutes in jet cycle. Since I haven't replaced the filters in a couple of years, I have ordered 2 new ones and will see if that is the problem.

Thanks and will keep you posted.
