Installed new heater relay board, now power light just flashes ??

Hello,
I have a 2002 Hot Spring Sovereign and replaced the burned out heater relay board. Now, when I plug in the spa, all I get is the power light flashing. Is this a thermeristor problem?
Thanks

Is it plugged in to the correct harness? Sometimes, it get accidentally plugged into the harness right next to it, which it fits perfectly on some models. If not...
The flashing red light usually indicates the heater has over-heated, or, a bad thermistor. Test OHM's accross the thermistors (set meter on 20k if not auto-range) They should be about equal. Post your results.

Thermistor

Hello,
I had the tech come out from the spa company that I bought from. He installed another relay board and didn't change anything. The thermistor's tested about 15 ohms, which is about right for the temp of the water now. He is suggesting trying out a new control head and maybe a new circuit board. The spa with the bad heater relay(burned out relay) was running fine, except for no heat. I'm at a lost about what happened to this spa? Oh yeah, the warranty ran out four months ago.
Thanks

Update

Hello,
I tried a new control head, and it did nothing to help the spa. I drained the spa today and will look for any restrictions in the water lines. Any help would be great.
Thanks

This is going to sound really wierd, but unplug the LED (spa light) "Luminescence" light harness from the IQ2020. There might be two plugs on the light cord.

A communication error between the light PCB and the main PCB will also cause the red power light to flash-I'll explain more and why if unplugging the light fixes the issue.

Let me know what happens

LED light problem should be isolated to 2006 models. Was circ. pump flow verified?

Negative

Water intrusion onto the multi-color light PCB may cause the identical issue in older models, as well as other "creative" issues.

Light

Hello, I'll give a try tomorrow. When I was cleaning and flushing the system, I broke off the glued in barb on the elbow above the silent pump. <img src=" title="Crying or Very sad" /> I'll let you know what happens?!? Thanks again!!

Bummer on the nipple breakage.

The light is kind of a longshot-it's a very rare failure, but it's so easy to test for, and occasionally, it's the problem. Will drive a tech that's not familiar with the issue quite insane.

It's more likely the IQ2020 based on your description (The thermistor being good, the control head being good)

I do have one other question, though. Did the tech actually try another thermistor, or just meter out the old one? I've metered them out in the past, and they've metered out OK, but plugged in a new one anyway, and viola, all good. Maybe a problem in the harness, but worth a shot if the alternative is a $450 (or more) repair.

Also check to see if the jumpers in the new board are configured properly based on weather or not your sovereign is 110 or 220 volts.

Still confused

Hello, Good news- I fixed my nipple <img src=" title="Laughing" />, but unplugging the light didn't help <img src=" title="Crying or Very sad" /> I probably should buy a high limit thermistor?? They aren't that expensive and will eliminate that area. Please let me know any other tricks. Thanks

Another sad day

<img src=" title="Sad" /> I replaced the high limit thermistor, changed the filters and added new water, and it still just flashes!! Is there anything else to look at before I change the whole board?? Thanks

Oh man- what a bummer <img src=" title="Shocked" /> How long does it take the red light to flash?

Posted by on 2008-02-11 23:47:36. SW Florida (12596)
Flash

Hello,
When someone plugs in the power, the circuit board flashes the green led then the bottom red led(control head) for a second. Then, the power light flashes just after, then the spa control blinks all it's symbols, then just the power light keeps flashing.
Thanks
