Hi. I have a 13 year old spa that apparently was assembled by the shop that sold them, and this shop used to make their own tubs from fiberglass shells, cedar surrounds, and what I suppose were commonly available parts stock, as opposed to them just retail selling some brands of premade spa.
So it's not a Sundance or a Balboa or any recognizable brand, it's a Jetstream Pool and Spa whazzis. " title="Laughing" />
Of course the owners of Jetstream have closed the business and retired. (and moved to Mexico!) And I have this odd tub of off the shelf parts. Well it still runs after 13 years, and doesn't leak at least.
But of course I have a problem with the spa.
The top control I understand to be a Len Gordon, and it has a digital display that shows the actual temperature and has up-arrow and down-arrow push buttons for the operator to set the intended temperature, then releasing the button pressed reverts the display to read the actual temperature of the water once again.
This spa will work just fine for a week, two weeks, maybe even three weeks and then one day I'll go out for a dip, only to find that while the display still shows a temperature consistent with what the setting is, the actual water temperature has begun to cool, and if not checked in a while might be quite cold.
The way to get it back in service I have found has been to 'reboot' the control by cutting the power for a second or two and then plugging it back in.
This makes the digital display begin to show the true water temperature and of course the heater immediately kicks in. The spa will behave for a while until it surprizes me once again by turning out to be darned cold just when I want to go in for a nice soak. " title="Shocked" />
Like it has a sense of humour.
Anyone hear of this problem? And more to the point is it something fixable, or has the microprocessor simply suffered a meltdown beyond the means of the backyard mechanic to repair?
I've replaced the heater element a couple of times and the heater relay once but this one has me stumped. |
