Water heating above set temp

I have a 2005 Cal Spa. The temp is set at 97 degrees but the water is up to 107. I turned off the breaker and let the water cool down to 95 overnight. This morning I turned the breaker back on and confirmed the setting of 97 degrees. After about an hour or so of running the water temp was back up to 99 degrees. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It sounds like your thermostat sensor is bad. There is also a high limit sensor that should shut it down before it gets to 107.

The thermostat sensor should actually be touching the the water through a tub penetration. The high limit sensor is usually attached to the outside of the heater.
