heater stays on

i have a vita spa selectron 200. the heat is staying on even with the heater light off and when it is above selected temperature. when you turn the spa off, you can hear the heater element stay on and heats up the water to the point where it trips the high limit. any ideas????

p.s. it is showing voltage across the heater terminals.

update: it seems to only do it when in auto heat mode, not economy mode.

don't know vita spas but sounds like the pressure switch may be staying closed once the pump stops - faulty pressure switch, although a stuck heat relay might also cause this

alacy/ I,m new to these hot tubs and I have a similar problem with my Vita Spa except that mine does not always have voltage at the heater. Could you explain to me the function of the pressure switch and the correct way to adjust it? Thanks for any help you can give me. Donnie <img src=" title="Very Happy" />

the pressure switch detects water pressure which is only present with the pump running/working correctly. if the pump fails, the pressure switch is designed to remain open circuit so that the heating system is disabled

adjustments are seldom required and in many cases not available depending on type - first place to check is filters - blocked filters prevent proper flow, especially low speed, or a pump blockage. fault pressure switches do occur so could also easily be that too.
a multimeter can be used to determine correct p/sw operation - short circuit with pump on, open circuit with pump off

alacy Thanks alot for the info. Could I pick your brian a little more? My spa trips the high limit switch when I set the timer on auto to run the spa at preset intervals. I noticed an adjustment screw on it. Any ideas? Thanks Donnie

do not adjust - this is preset at a safe overtemp mark
the reason its tripping, i think, is that there's a problem with your system (possibly only pressure switch because of links above) is that it is putting power to the heater, pump running or not - this is tripping your overtemp.
could be a stuck relay or other problems
highly recommend you employ a competent service tech

alacy, just thought I,d let you know the pressure switch was my problem. Got my meter out and set it when the circulation pump was on and then off and its been working great for the last week. Thats the hint I needed as to what it was suppossed to do. Thanks for your help. <img src=" title="Very Happy" /> : <img src=" title="Very Happy" />
