| hight limit tripped |
Latest issue with my free leisure bay hot tub. The high limit keeps tripping every day. I currently have the heater set on timer and its set to come on for a couple hours mid morning and then again for about 4 hours in the evening. I have to use the reset button every night to get the heater back on. Any ideas? |

Re: hight limit tripped
How old is this tub? Is the equipment original?
cause as hi-limit switchs/bulbs get older they get very finicky..
It might be time to replace the hi-limit, and they are not very expensive.
Or check your water flow. try taking out your filter if it has not been replaced in a while. cause low flow can cause your hi limit to kick on you to save your heater element from burning up and getting damaged.
Also, try backing the bulb of the hi-limit out just a "smidge" hardly back it out. sometimes that can help as they get older. but I would replace it if after you take your filter out and it still kicks out on you. If it does not kick out on you after you remove your filter then you know you need to replace your filter with a new one.
also, If your topside controller works properly and controls the heat levels, make sure its not cranked up all the way to the hottest point on the dial or digital controller bring it back a little. cause it could be trying to bring the temp up hotter then it should be. some of the older topside controls that had a dial would do this. |

Re: hight limit tripped
Tub age, oh about 15 years at least.
Filter was removed and cleaned in dishwasher when we hooked up the tub. Filter looked good and it was fairly new. Not sure of exact age but I could find out. I got the tub from my sister. If I got it out of the house, I got to keep it.
Top side controller works. I can adjust the temp knob and the heater will kick on or off.
Ill try removing the filter. |

Re: hight limit tripped
sometimes a clean looking filter can still slow down the water flow. Using filter cleaner is your best bet then just running it in a dish washer, also if you put dishwashing soap in while you washed it that most of the time will make it look clean but clog it up more.
Again, try everything I said in my last post. If it does not help I would suggest replacing your hi-limit switch. esp if the tub is 15 years old.. that is a long time to be in business if your a hi-limit switch/bulb.
Some times backing the bulb to the hi-limit switch out of the heater enclosure just a little can help take some pressure off and keep it from tripping prematurely. But do not take it all the way out. just back it up 2-4 16th's of an inch. just a smidge. but only do this if after taking the filter out and running it with out the filter and it still is tripping.
I would replace that hi-limit anyway. |
