replacing control panel knobs

wow..i wish it was digital <img src=" title="Smile" /> but for now i have a hotsprings spa, 300 gal, 3quarter horse, indoor/outdoor model I-0, watkins manuf. co., i have inherited it so i dont have all the paperwork. when i filled it up for the first time yesterday i could not get the jets to start flowing..i could hear/feel a hum but when i went to turn the knob (located on the side panel just above the compartment with the guts of the tub) it was free spinning! it pulls out some and i can see where there is a screw attatched (that stops it from being removed all the way) so i unscrewed the 4 plastic screws and could not for the life of me remove the plastic plate (where the knobs are) im thinking the other 2 would just pop off but they did not..as i tryed to put a screwdriver under them the plastic chipped off one of the other knobs and i noticed it was chipped before so maybe someone else try'd that too? how do i get into it to see if i can tighten up the one jet control knob? i can not get up under it via the guts door..the large silver box has no access to the area behind the knobs. also...inside the filter compartment is a angled pipe stickin out above the filter (just below the lid) it has to do with the air intake for the bubble flow (i think) and inside it is a thin THIN disc..it appears to be made of the same thing a air-i-ator (like in a fish tank) is made of..its sandy gritty kinda like a cutting wheel for a drimmel ?? sorry? does that make sense..anyway it is broke and half of it is missing..is that cruital ? should i look around for a business to replace it? im havin a hard time finding names and locations for stuff for this tub..i do not even know what yr it is? the lable under/in the filter area is faded. thanks for any help and i can send pictures if needed!!! Kd

I know exactly what you have. You need a long phillips head screw driver to tighten the screw back onto the jet switch. the screw driver fits up from inside the equipment compartment.
Whenever you need to do work in the control box, the knobs are loosened first via long screw driver, then the front control panel screws come off then the control panel and knobs come off together. Then there's four screw that hold the component box to a metal bracket. It's meant to come apart one way.
The tube/ 90degree elbow, in the filter compartment hold the air control, there is a stone of sorts in there. The stones only used to be avaialable for replacement, but if I'm not mistaken the whole air switch would be replaced.
Generally the serial # for the spa was located on a sticker in the filter compartment, but also was sometimes written in black marker at the top of the equipment compartment door. All items are still available for your spa. Let us know if we can help.

control panel knobs

thanks hottubboy that should help !! of course i drained it and sopped up the water because were have a freeze tonight <img src=" title="Sad" /> the light cover has a leak, somehow?? once i filled it sun. i noticed the space between the tub and the foam installation, there was standing water that was NOT suppose to be there, and it was trickling out..so i drained it to see if i could fix that issue first..i dont want water comin in the guts compartment if i can stop it! the light cover (the foggy round disc that is actually in the tub water) has a puddy on in like there was a hairline crack..do you know if it is difficult to replace? that was told to me to be the only thing not working on this unit. im hoping to get this thing up and working by next weekend?? thanks again. kd

the light lens is replaceable. Your local hotspring dealer probably won't stock it and the devcon glue, but if you can't wait for them to get it, we can ship it to you. The new lens is the same FLAT style as what's in there now. That's the one you need. You'll also need a 3" grinder with a sanding disc for the replacement job.

The water in the equipment compartment doesn't hurt anything.

Temporarily, you can scrape off the putty that's there now and re-apply some more. Works for a month or two or three.

the grinder is for the lens replacement for grinding off the old glue. Our service manuals have the diagrams of the parts. Send a fax# to scarritt@snet.net and we'll fax you a few pages.
