| Cracks - hot springs highlife model K light to jetstream |
I've discovered the all to common cracks between the light housing and the jetstream on my K model Hotsprings highlife. It's very easy to access from behind through the equipment panel. From reading I see all I need to do is apply marine epoxy and some fibreglass. Any other tips while I'm in there fixing it? Also I'm going to reinforce the step from underneath as I think its a weak design and its coninued flexing is what led to the crack dcevelopment. |

Re: Cracks - hot springs highlife model K light to jetstream
We use a glue product called Permalite. It comes from the factory. I have heard of people using Marine Epoxy but don't have 1st hand knowledge. We first cut out the plastic shroud with a Dremel tool. Be careful of any plumbing behind the plastic. We sand the area well and clean it with a solvent. Put on a good layer of glue. Cover the area with a sheet of fiberglass. Cover the fiberglass liberally with more glue and let dry.
I agree that you should do the cool down seat. Also do the side walls of the cool down seat. The more you do the better in that area.

That's kind of like the Permalite except you would need 20 tubes and the Devcon dries in about 5 minutes at most. The Permalite is in bigger containers and gives you about 15 min. or so working time. |

Re: Cracks - hot springs highlife model K light to jetstream
Hi Pete, do I need to drill a hole at each end of the crack? If so does the hole go part way through the shell or all the way through?? The crack is 12 inches in length and has a couple of small branches coming off of it. It's not really leaking yet but can been in its whole length from the top side and shows as just small cracks from the underneath the shell. Also, is the underside fibreglass? |

Yes it's a good idea to drill each end of the crack - only go a little way in, not all the way through. The backside of the shell is ABS plastic. |

Here's a picture. I've drained it ready. I'll drill holes the end of each crack and branch,dremel out v shape,sand,clean and then fill / patch. " title="Laughing" /> |

I wouldn't worry about drilling all those spyders. If you see a big crack on the inside then I would drill that. Sand those spyders very smooth and definately do the entire area.
