Hot Springs Spas (Filter runs only manually)

I bought a used Hot Springs Spa (Ser# IA 01071) doesnt mention model. It works great, and i can either run the heater or the pump/ blower. It doesnt automatically filter the water. Is this just a problem with having an older tub> or should this tub occasionally filter the water automatically to keep it clean? Any wisdom would be appreciated. <img src=" title="Confused" /> Also interested in replacing jets with rotating jets if possible, they look to come off with spanner wrench, just wondered what was possible replacement

Tub is a 1991 Sovereign. The jet pump will not come on by itself, the small circulation pump in the motor compartment runs 24 hrs/day for filtration.

Depending on the type of sanitizer you are using, I would normally suggest putting some in and running the jet pump for a short time before each use.

I wouldn't try the spanner wrench because I think it will take the whole threaded jet out. I'll check tomorrow at work to see what type of spinning jets are available for that year if any.

It's a bit older than 1991, it's an 88 or 89, and the small pump doesn't filter the water. Not a big deal, since the big pump filters 100% while in use. Does it have a timer on the side of the control box?

Enjoy,

It doesnt have timer on the control panel. There is a thermostat which turns the heater and the small pump on to keep the temperature up. Ive been running the large pump twice a day for about an hour trying to keep the water clean (Is that enough?).The water stays clear and i keep the ph and chlorine reasonably close. I think i have real hard water but hasnt been a problem yet.Ive only had it two weeks. The Insulation Jacket on the Cylinder Heater has deteriorated.I was wondering what it could be replaced with.Thx for All your help thus far. This site is a great service with great people.

I wouldn't worry about running the big pump. As long as you keep you sanitizer at minimum levels- you'll be fine.

If you wish to replace the insulation, I'd order it from a local Hot Springs dealer, or look on-line. It's essentially clay wrapped in tin-foil.

The timer would be on the side of the control box, underneath, if equipped.

If it's not there, don't worry about it, you don't need to run the big pump every day.

Ahhh, I just looked for the 2nd number after the dash, didn't see the 'A' in the IA. I haven't been doing much field service in the last few months and you forget things fast...or at least I do. Too many tub repairs in the shop to get out lately.

Good luck with the tub Hammerhead.

Thanks for all the information.Im really enjoying the hot tub. Im still interested in replacing some of the jets with oscillating or rotating ones if possible. Apparently its a 78-79 hot Springs Sovereign.Got that info from the vast knowledge from the people here.

Me thinks you added a decade <img src=" title="Very Happy" /> <img src=" title="Idea" /> It's an 88 or 89 <img src=" title="Idea" /> Enjoy <img src=" title="Cool" />
