| Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa |
We got a used Hot Springs Spa (sovereign) that had started leaking after being empty for a winter. It was winterized at the time but apparently not good enough. We refilled the hot tub about 1/2 way today and are finding a rush of water in the pump compartment. There is a hose that comes from the bottom of the hot tub to, what I believe, is the pump. We are waiting to see at what level the water will quit draining.
What I am gathering from this website is we need to be very careful when removing the side panels as they are very well attached. I am also understanding that we need to see how low the water drains to determine the level of the leak.
One other thing that I would like to know is, should we be tipping the hot tub on its side to take the bottom apart to fix the lines from there or is that not a possibility? Is it better to go in from the side?
We did receive the paperwork for the hot tub but I am not able to locate it at this time so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure of the year of this hot tub either. If that is something that is needed and you are able to tell me how to find that I would appreciate that as well.
Thanks, Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
The water stopped draining when it go to the bottom of the jets/light. I guess at this point we will take a look at those areas and see what we can find.
Again, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
Could you see it coming out from the hose? Does it look like it might be coming up from the floor around that hose? If so check the light lens and check for cracks around that area. Do you have a serial number or the year of the spa? |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
The seriel number is I4C1136
Taking another look, the water is about halfway down the light and at the bottom of the last oval of the Moto Massage jet.
The water seemed to be coming out from around the hose. Karen |

Check the bottom of the light lens from inside the equip. area looking for moisture. |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
There is definitely moisture there but I am not sure if it is from condesation from the water being cold. We don't have the 220 set up yet as we wanted to make sure the leak was fixable first.
I am guessing we should add some hot water to the tub to at least bring it to the air temp and as well to see if we can feel water running from the light area. Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
I have added some water, about 8 cups at a time and it only took about 16 cups or so to get it to start leaking again. You can hear the water running on the left side of the control panel. We will continue to search but think that we are going to have to take a few panels off before we can find it.
Will update when I find out more information. Thanks, Karen |

Are you able to tell me what year this one is base on the serial number? Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
It's a 4th quarter 2001 Sovereign. Does this spa have ozone? If so I have a simple fix. |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
OK - look in the equip. area and find the heater. The heater has two 3/4" hoses coming out of it. Inline with one of those hoses is what's called a Mazai injector. It's a black thing about 5 inches long with a 1/4" hose coming out of the top of it. Follow this hose up until you run into a little check valve. Hopefully you will find it broken. It is inline on the 1/4" hose. If this is the problem the spa should only leak when you don't have power to the spa or if you are in summer timer mode. If it is broken that is your problem and you just need to replace it. It's called an ozone check valve part # 1044101. That Mazai injector creates a venturi suction on the 1/4" hose to suck the ozone from the generator. If you lose power or are in summer mode the circulation pump Isn't running and you lose the suction on the hose and the water starts to back up. The check valve is there to keep the water from making it into the ozone generator. Let me know what you find. |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
That wasn't the issue. We have added more water to see what happens, again. We have taken a couple pieces of the siding off and have started to search for the leak but have not come across it yet. The water is coming from the hole around the small hose in the bottom left side of the equipment area that is located on the same wall area as the light. We are going to try to work on it again this week and hopefully will know more soon.
Thanks, Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
Well, we have finally had a little more time to get back at the hot tub in search of the leak. We finally found it on the opposite side of the tub at the Moto Massage jet.
As my husband dug more and more foam out in that area the more saturated it became. Once getting it all remove the brown flexible hose that attaches to the elbow is completely severed. Actually the very top of the elbow is where the crack is. Here is where we need the help. How do we get the elbow off that so we can reattach the hose? There is no hose that you can cut and reattach and elbow. Here is a link to the photo with the break. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2... 8f69f1f111
Any input you have with this would be great.
Thanks,
Karen |

Re: Leak in Hot Springs Sovereign Spa
You can sometimes get those PVC fittings off with heat like from a heat gun. You can heat them up and peel them off the connecting pipe. Then I'd figure out how to glue on a screw on PVC adapter with a nipple that will fit the flexible hose and clamp the flex to it. Alternatively you could remove and replace the entire jet and associated plumbing. I think they just silicone into the tub. |
