| Why is water coming back up thru air inlet? |
Hi,
My Morgan spa is acting up. It has a water leak, and it's coming from the air inlet, not a jet or anywhere else in the plumbing. The leak is above the water level, and increases significantly when I open the air inlet. When the pump turns off the leak stops completely. It's as if the pump is pumping water through the jet and back up into the air inlet.
Has anybody ever seen this before?

You've got a clogged jet or bad gasket in A JET. The best way to find the offending jet is to remove each one and inspect it....
What's happening is that instead of all of the water going out of the jet(s), some is being forced back into the air line(s). Not a difficult problem to find, well unless you've got a 100 jets in which case you're in trouble... lol.
Cheers. |

Pageup,
Thanks! It's only got a few jets so finding the offending jet won't be a problem. Are there special wrenches for removing the jets, and if so can I purchase them online anywhere?

THey're probably either waterway jets that unscrew from the face, or older american jets that have a little clip inside the jet itself...
Tool for removing jets=hands. |

Attached are pictures of the suspect jets, can you tell by looking whether these unscrew from the face or have an internal clip?

Top two photos... it's that clip that's in the 2 o'clock position. Either a very strong fingernail, or a screwdriver or something to pull that clip in towards the center, then pull like crazy to get the jet out.
On some older installs I've actually used two screwdrivers - one for the little clip, the other wide flat blade to pry the jet body out (up against the acrylic surface behind the jet plastic flange). But this method has it's pitfalls - If you're like a mad man or something you could either break the jet flange face or worse, crack the acrylic behind it.
Use caution - but use adequate force. Be sure the clip is pulled in at least 1/8 of an inch or more.... the more the better.
The bottom jet photo... unscrew directly from the 'mercedes' jet face by grabbing the spokes.
The top photos are american jets that pull out,
the bottom is waterway which unscrews counter-clockwise. |

Pageup,
You were right on target, thanks! The waterway unscrewed completely, by hand, no tools were required. I removed it and turned off all the other jets, putting the full force of the water pump through this now-empty jet body; I heard some rattling and then a conical gizmo came out of the jet body as well. The other jets common to this air inlet started working much better and the drip stopped!
