I am a pool/spa service tech, been in the business for 25 years. Until this year, I have only had 1 spa plumbing leak to deal with, now this year out of no where, I have 4-5 spas with plumbing leaks. Why is this?? And to make matters worse, the spas today now have that foam insulation blown in to almost fill the whole space between the shell and the cabinet. This makes finding the leak very difficult in 2 ways, first the leaking water travels through the foam by whatever path it can find to get out meaning if the water is coming out on 1 corner or side, but the leak can accually be on the oppisite corner or side. Is there an easy way to determine where the leak accually is without tearing a good portion of the foam out?? Maybe like using a long 3/8" drill bit to drill seep holes in the foam like when you tap a maple tree for syrup?? Second problem is once you find the leak, the foam needs to be removed, and plenty of it so you have access to the pipe, fitting, tub, ect, to fix the broken part. And the hardest part is removing the last little bit so you can re-glue/seal the new parts. Is there something we can spray on the foam that will dissolve it easily, or atleast soften it for easier removal?? Hope to hear back with a solution from somebody.
