| Can a spa pack controller with 2hp pump handle a 4hp pump? |
Howdy Gang and thanks for letting me join your community!
I have an older (1999) sequoia spa. The SpaPack was replaced last year with a new one (before me of course) and the yahoo's that replaced it, replaced the 4hp pump that came stock with a 2hp pump. My question for you all is... Can the controller that supplies power to the pump handle the upgraded pump or am I stuck replacing the pump / controller and for that matter... replacing the pack?
I started digging into this when the jets on the Pump 1 hardly pushed any water and didn't push any air.
My configuration:
Pump 1, 2 speed (supposed to be 4hp, currently 2hp)
Pump 2, 1 speed (4hp)
Spa pack now in there is an Acura Spa systems Power master series
Ozonator
and this does not have an Air Pump.

I can't agree with you on the 4hp/2hp deal here without a little more info:
What was the voltage and amperage ratings of the original pump?
Controllers won't really care about hp ratings, they care about amperage draw, and most don't have a problem with anything that's sold for this industry; be it 1-4.5 hp or whatever. |

Thanks Pageup for the response! I'll wait for the snowstorm to pass and get onto my homework! I found some information on the Acurasystems controller, but the one I have appears to be too new for their website. Time to make some phone calls.
I wasn't sure if the controllers were fairly standard and could handle most HP ratings for a common hot tub pump.
I'll find some specs and report back!

They can pretty much handle everything off the shelf these days.
If your acura is digital, then it's the ACC smart touch 2000 or 1000 system with their label.
