Jacuzzi K-Pump Problems

I have a problem getting the K-Pump (high speed pump) started on my 1995 Jacuzzi Platinum Series (think it's a Quantum) hot tub. I had the same problem with the previous pump too, I think that one was shorted out and was the cause of my melted wires! Just put a new J-Pump in (low speed) and moved the K-Pump that the dealer installed in the WRONG spot to the high speed pump side (dealer installed a K-Pump where the J-pump is supposed to be). Problem is on a 50/50 basis when I push the button to turn on the high speed pump/jets, the Pump makes a bang noise, like it is jumping when energized but the jets stay on low. If I cycle it through a few times, eventually the pump will act normal and turn on. Dealer said it sounds like air lock, but why would it be intermittent. Tried to bleed the air out by loosening the top plumbing connector, water came out and the gasket ripped when re-tightening. Argh! Still have the problem with the pump. Can't figure out what the cause is. This is the 2nd pump in this location (High Speed) that is doing this. Is it air lock? What is the correct way to bleed air out? Any ideas what the cause/fix is? Is the plug on the front of the pump (flat tip screwdriver looking plug) just above the front plumbing connection an air vent plug to prime the pump?

Appreciate any advice!

Re: Jacuzzi K-Pump Problems

Does your plumbing have a check valve somewhere on on the disharge side of the pump? I know I thought my high speed Jacuzzi pump on my Laser (1997) platinum was giving up the ghost. It would let out a loud thud upon starting it up about half the time. Sometimes it would produce a normal flow, and other times a noticeably reduced flow. It turned out the pump was fine, but the "flap" in the "swing valve" had broken free. The fix was to replace the bad check valve with a new one from my Jacuzzi dealer. I don't know if that's your issue, but worth checking out if you have not done so. My valve was just past the first bend on the discharge side of the pump.

Good Luck,

Tony
