| Replacing Coleman Spa Pump and Wet End - 1996 Horizon Series |
I have separated my pump and electronics from my spa body (80'). Everything works fine except the pressure is a little lower since there is now a longer run of water line. The original pump recently quit working and I need to replace it. The wet end also needs replacing since it is starting to leak. Any suggestions on replacing it with a higher horsepower and/or higher rpm pump to get the pressure at the jets back? And would it work with the original electronics?
The original pump is a 1081/1563 rpm Magnetek Century Lasar Pool/Spa Motor 9Model 125275-1 |

are you sure about those rpm's? Standard two speed is 1725 and 3450. However, depending on how long of a run you have, and size of pipe, consider this. If you have 1.5" pipe now, replace it with 2". For every 10 feet, add 1/2 hp minimum. If you stick with 1.5" pipe, add an additional 1/2 hp. Just be sure that the higher motor load will still be within your wire/controller's amperage rating. |

Good HydroTherapy comes from volume not pressure. The jets are key if you can force more water through what you have you may get a little more pressure but that does not equate to better therapy. If you truly want better therapy look as changing the jets also. |

HP Rating
You were right about the rpm. It is 3450/1725. The motor does not have a horsepower rating. Do you know from the model number what this may be? Also, are these pumps able to be repaired? |

Since you are dealing with a longer run of pipe, replace the pump regardless. Depending on what the problem is, the motor can sometimes be repaired. Bad capacitors, bearings, and centrifigual switches can be replaced. Bad windings aren't cost effective to have rewound.
I don't have information on the motor, but here is a good formula to figure out what the original pump should have been.
Add 1/4 HP for every jet in the tub. If you have 8 jets, you should have had a 2 HP pump originally. Due to the added run of pipe, I would increase this rating as mentioned above. |
