this is one of my pumps, it hasn't run in 2 years (2 speed 230v). I suspect water got on it via the ozonator (water backed up into this, then the previous owner drained the tub in response but never touched the tub again for 2 years).

So, eyeballing it; does this look like a motor that should be replaced (ie it looks like it has to be damaged, probably seized)? Is it worth trouble shooting it?

(hot-tub is "dead" when I apply power, though the control board is pristine looking and the other (1 speed) pump looks OK).

That pump has probably failed due to excess (bad) water chemistry maintenance. It causes the water to eat thru the pump seals, then goes on into the front of the motor, attacking the motor bearing. None of this stuff has anything to do with your ozonator, that's an entirely different issue. You'll need to remove the pump, and replace or repair it. You can tell if it's got a bad front bearing by attempting to rotate the impeller after removing the plumbing. This is helpful, thank you. I'll pull the pump out and try to troubleshoot it then. It's also helpful to know that this could blow a fuse in the control box, which would explain why it's "dead".

I finally put on my miner's light and went in. It wasn't pretty, there was a lot of rust.

There are 2 pumps; the one not pictured above is fine, minimal corrosion, and a small amount of corrosion that looks like a leaky seal--so I'll redo the seal and see how that one works.

The pump pictured above has a lot of corrosion, but is not seized. It seems to turn about as easily as the OK looking pump. I am tempted to give it a shot, but unfortunately I broke a screw while attempting to remove the front end (pump end)--one of the really long screws, and it broke. I am considering cutting the front end off (shame because except for impeller it seems OK). I am also considering just replacing the motor/pump unit, though this seems a bit wasteful--the entire front half of the pump is pretty rusty though, including the shaft.

I was able to get the impellers off w/o breakage--so maybe this isn't the world's most neglected spa.
