I'm tired of buying new heater elements every year and replacing thermistats etc etc. The other down side is keeping a constant temp? Is there aynone out there who has converted one of thes tubs to digital. I am running 240 volts and we just installed a new motor and pump last year. I cant be the one one whos frustrated at this? Any help would be appreciated?

Consider that if something goes bad on a digital system, you usually end up replacing a much more expensive component. I'm curious about what's causing the bad thermostat/heater element.

I've replaced lots of these systems, but usually because the customer is paying me to fix the air controlled pack every time and the labor costs make it worth the switch.

The original element lasted almost 12 years. Then we got a replacement (same make as original etc), and now the damn element goes about every year. Last summer I replaced the thermostat, the overheat limiter and the element all at once. I foolishly thought if I put it all in new I wouldnt have any additional problems (how dumb was that thought??). It is hard a hell to control the temp with the dial style thermostat to boot. This time We had one of the little plastic fitting break and we lost some water............. burned out the element (again)..... I dont know if this helps, but it is the track record of the past events.

Well, if it's any consolation I've got a customer with all electronic controls that's gone through 3 elements in the last 18 months. It can happen on either style.

It would be worth taking a look at the relays on your system. Usually there are 2 or 3 small relays that make up your safety circuit. They may be getting stuck and/or chattering and wearing out your heater. That would explain the difficulty getting the heat set as well. If you have any problems identifying the relays, post a pic of the guts.

Ok...... so after a few tense days of freezing weather I found the problem. There is a lil clear hose that runs from the pressure switch to the pump. After I bypassed the presure switch the heater kicked on. I then checked the hose and it had a small 1/4 inch inch plug in it (from sitting while cold I assume). I fired up a couple of aux. heaters and thawed things out. After that, I reconnected the pressure switch and the heater fired up and everything seems fine. Thanx for the input.
