| High Speed Pump Won't Go On With Light on, Heater Flakey too, Control Board Problem? |
I have a Jacuzzi Echo Z150 hot tub with the analog control panel. It has 5 settings, low pump, low pump with a light, high pump with a light, high pump without a light and off.
Let me run through a typical swim in my hot tub, it is the only way I can think of to describe my problem.
I get in the tub, which my thermometer reads 105.1. I cycle through the settings, but I cannot get the light to stay on while the high speed pump is on, when it gets to that step the high speed pump doesn't come on but the light stays on. Then the next step in the sequence the light goes off and the high speed pump comes on.
I sit in the tub for about an hour, with the high speed pump on. The tub slowly loses temperature, the heater never comes on even if I mess with the dial. Slowly the tub gets down to about 95 degrees, I get cold and I get out.
I watch the thermometer for the next hour and the temp stays the same, all of a sudden I notice it will start climbing. The motor ran for about an hour before the heater decided to come back on. Now it will probably heat back up to 105, but not necessarily. Sometimes it will heat two degrees, then stop, then come back on.
Weird huh? I've calibrated the pressure switch, the tub will maintain 105 degrees just fine as long as I am not in it messing with the control panel.
What do you think? Order a new control board for $215? I don't know what else it could be.
Thanks for the help gurus!

You still have not indicated whether your spa is connected to 230v or 115v power.
Nobody can help you unless you provide adequate amplifying info about the specifics of your spa setup. |

Sorry
The spa is a 220v spa.

These are generally considered to be 'throw-away' topside control panels. It's your cheapest alternative and if you're going to keep this controller underneath the spa, then I'd replace yours with this one:

These things have a lifespan of about 5-7 years depending upon environmental factors. |

Cool
So you think since it seems to miss one of its stages when I am scrolling through the options that it is the analog control panel, and not the circuit board down underneith?
I hate guessing. I bet this part is non-returnable too if I plug it in just to see if it fixes the problem or not!
Thanks for your help,

You should have a spare topside panel anyway. If yours isn't dead now, it will be within a year or so based on the age.
In this situation you've got to go with the most obvious and what provides the best insight from a historical (repair) perspective - go after the topside first on this particular system, because they're relatively cheap, you should have a spare at this point, and it's definitely cheaper than the circuit board.
I mean, sure, buy a circuit board first. But if that doesn't take care of it you still have to purchase a topside. Even if it does, you'll probably have to get a new topside sooner rather than later.
