New hayward max flo wiring question, or need a ap4 link...Help! Please!

Ok, I am out of patience with google. Good engine, but I dont need 4555555 results. Does anyone have a link for a spabuilders ap4 manual?

Here is the skinny. I replaced my old hayward pump with a new maxflo hayward pump/motor. Nice unit, but I cannot find anywhere on it to hook up the nuetral coming from the controller. The controller switches work fine, and I have 110 on both the red and black lines out. The motor, however refuses to start. I hooked the nuetral to the ground lug, thinking it all connects back at the main box the same place, but cant get anything fed. I would also like to have 220 pump ops, but cant find my dang manual.

If anyone has ever dealt with this, or has a link, you would save my sanity.

thanks, Digger T.

Your motor should have 3 connectors for power.
That's what a two speed motor will have.

A single speed motor will only have 2.

The AP4 usually needs a two speed motor.

The white wire (if the controller is still wired properly) should go to the 'C' or 'LINE' or 'L1' however yours is marked on the nomenclature plate.

And get that neutral OFF the ground! NEVER do this!

Ok, I am totally confused. I would like to run my pump on 220, but at this point will take 110. The ap4 has 220 running to it, I believe for the heater, but is only putting out 110 for the pump pigtail. It has a green, white, red, and black wire, the red and black are showing 110 each, but I think it is the same 110. If I meter red and black, instead of 220, I still get 110.
If I switch my pump to 110 operation, do I just tape the red and disregard it, and put the white neutral on the L2 or L1 lug on the pump?

I found the manual for the ap4 I have, it wasnt much help.
The old hayward pump I replaced had a neutral lug, so hookup wasnt a big deal.

What is the catch with hooking the nuetral to the ground lug? I figured it was eventually headed back to the same bus bar in my main, but saw the NEVER in your reply, and took it off. Spa is now dead till I get some answers.....
Thanks very much for the reply.

OH yeah, the other thing that has me fuddled is the fact the new pump has L1 and L2, and no other lugs. It also has a movable jumper to go from 110 to 220, but nothing about using the newly exposed lug when the jumper is moved.

So, so, confused....

Ok, update. I now have it running on 110, better than nothing. I simply taped up the black wire coming from the controller, and ran the neutral to L1, I traced that back to the neutral in the motor. I would assume if I could get the black wire 110 hot, I could run my pump at 220, but not sure how to manipulate the controller wiring to do that.

Very possible to simply leave well enough alone?

Thanks, Dig
