| Too Many Leaks !!! |
Purchased a Master Spa LS800 back in 98 (to date it has been a great tub). Recently, I noticed the water level dropping, then some wetness under the tub. Removed the skirt and - yikes !!! - water dripping from circ motor, both pump motors, and one of the heater couplings. Thanks to the all good folks and great tech info / education on this forum, I was able to settle down and develope a plan - would like to run it by you :
Tub has 2 Main pumps (AquaFlow FlowMaster-XP2, 2220v, 2 speed, 12/3.5 amp, 3450/1725 rpm, 4.5-5.0 spl hp) and 1 Circ Pump (Emerson 110v, 1 speed, 1.3 amp, 1725 rpm, 1/15 hp).
* Circ Pump - alot of calcum buildup om motor in shart area from what looks to be shot seal. Rather then messing with Wet End (and maybe a motor bearing later on), decided to replace pump. Considering WaterWorks Iron Might - sound ok ???
* Main Pumps - water is dripping from the O ring seal between the Wet End cover and body. Not spraying back on motor, as if the seal is shot. Rust on both motor shafts is minimal. Initial plan of attack here is to remove cover and either lube or replace the O Ring. I know you like WaterLube - I have a similar product called "Filter Saver (.com)". If that doesn't work, I may attempt a seal or entire Wet End replacement. Your thoughts ??
* Heater (Balboa) - water dripping from 1 of the connectors. Approach as same as above - pull and replace and/or lube the O Ring.
One reserve I have is, I don't see alot of discussion about O Ring failures -more common is Seal failure. Is O Ring failure common ?? (ie : am I wasting my time) ????
Thanks for allowing me to break off a chunk of your extertise, thanks for this Forum, and thanks for your time !!!! |

Those pump o-rings are replaceable, and do sometimes fail, although a lot less often than the shaft seal. If you are going to be taking this apart to replace the o-ring, try to get the impeller off and save a future headache by replacing the shaft seals too. The circ pump often can't be repaired, lack of part availability. As long as the new pump is rated at the same or higher gph, you should be ok.
Often the old o-rings will have a build up of minerals and/or pitting, usually making them unsuitable for reuse. Won't hurt to try.
For tips on removing the impeller, search this forum, there are a couple ideas on how to get those pesky things off. |
