worth rebuilding pump?

I'm replacing one of the pumps in my hot tub. It's an ultrajet 240v 56 frame pump. The replacement costs about $250. I believe the bearings on this pump are shot, there is a loud pump noise when running (even dry) and audible friction when I turn the pump by hand.

But, I'm thinking there is nothing wrong with this pump that can't be repaired with some time and relatively inexpensive parts. I'm planning to have this tub for the long term.

So, my question is if it is worth rebuilding this circulation pump, for when the other 8 year old pump fails?

Re: worth rebuilding pump?

Hey, I'm a newbie and palpably don't know what I'm talking about, but I'm having some pump issues too.

I have looked on line and you can buy the motor or the wet end as separate pieces, but from what I have seen it doesn't save you much, ie each part seems to cost about 80% of the price of the whole pump. What I was thinking of doing was buying a complete replacement pump, saving the working parts of my current pump (my wet end seems to be ok) and maybe at some later time I can use that in a repair.

I have also read that there may be times where the wet end gets frozen on to the motor and it's extremely difficult to remove without damaging things. At any rate I plan to remove my pump in the next few days, so I can let you know how it goes.
