| 02 Sundance Optima with FLO2 Error |
Good Morning,
I often get the FLO2 error, but especially when I replace the filters. Is that a bad flow switch? Can I just pull it out and clean it up or should I buy a new one?
I've also heard that it can be a bad capacitor in the pump or something like that. Can you give me the skinny?
Thanks,
Brett

Re: 02 Sundance Optima with FLO2 Error
I've had similar issues with my Sundance Capri.
My understanding is that you can get two types of flow failures (FLO and FLO2). The more common one is is FLO. The FLO alert indicates the flow contacts didn't close in the flow switch. The flow switch is in line with the small circulating pump.
Several things could cause a FLO alert. 1) A blockage in the line 2) Air pocket in the line (common after changing the water). 3) Defective circulating pump (expensive). 4) Defective flow switch.
FLO2 I believe you get a FLO2 alert when the control circuits (at spa start-up) detect the flow switch is already closed before the circulating pump comes on. The circuit should be "open" when the switch contacts are open and "closed" when the switch operates. The FLO2 error will shut down the "start-up" procedure and keep the spa from operating. I tested this on my spa by cutting the cord to the flow switch (DO THIS WITH THE POWER OFF) and starting the spa with the red and black wires separated (open). The spa started running with a FLO alert (expected). Then I shorted the red and black wires which indicated to the control unit that the flow switch had operated... this cleared the FLO alert and the spa functioned normally.
The procedure I used is a good way to prove the problem is in the flow switch, which I replaced after isolating the failure. You need the flow switch so that if you actually do have a pump failure or other flow issue you won't risk damage to other components such as the heater. |
