| 3 flashing dots |
I have an Artesian Magic Class spa, I believe it's the Aladdin model, purchased and installed in 2003. In the temperature display window there are three dots just below the temperature readout that are flashing. I've been told that this indicates the need for filter replacement. I did that and they continue to flash. I tired running without a filter and they continue. It seems to be holding temperature, so right now I'm ruling out the heater. Looking in the pump area I see a small amount of water and assume their a very slight leak somewhere. I'm not getting any types of error messages other than the flashing dots. The pump works as do the jets. Any ideas as to what these flashing dots mean? Thanks. |

Re: 3 flashing dots
Those dots mean low flow. You shouldn't be heating with flashing dots. But hey, your heating and everything else is working fine, right? Don't worry about it. |

Re: 3 flashing dots
Hi Sammy, Thanks for the reply. Well I stand corrected, it's not heating. It's slowly losing heat. When I raise the heat setting I hear the pump or whatever kick on but no additional heat, in fact it continues to slowly drop. Do I need a new heater or some other part in the heating system?
Thanks |

Re: 3 flashing dots
BTW, thinking that perhaps something was clogging the system awhile back I used a plunger in the the area where the filter sits (after removing the filter) I plunged repeatedly, saw increased water flow, turned it back on and the dots had ceased flashing. A day or two later they returned. |

Re: 3 flashing dots
Is there any chance something got sucked into the pump?
If not, probably just a bad flow-switch/pressure-switch, or needs calibration. |

Re: 3 flashing dots
We recently bought a house with an existing hot tub, and it doesn't get hot. We also have the 3 flashing dots. The home-owner-warranty people sent a spa repairman, who said the problem is corrosion on an electrical connection between the pc board and pressure switch. His solution is to clean off the corrosion with a pencil eraser, which stops the flashing for a few hours then it comes right back. He says the problem is corrosion caused by humidity, and there's nothing else he can do to fix it. (We live in the desert near San Diego - what humidity? Don't spas work in Houston?)
I can re-seat the connection (pull off the spade clip and put it back on) and this also fixes it for a day or so. I've also noticed the pressure switch appears to be mostly copper, copper connectors, and is corroded. The 2 wires going to the PC board appear to be aluminum spade clips.
So I'm wondering. Is this repairman competent? Does the pressure switch need to be replaced? Should I be putting some kind of paste on the connections to make better contact, like a car battery? |
