| Cal Spas (Balboa 6200 pack): Error code "SA" |
Hi All,
After having my new (well, floor model) Cal Spa delivered to me, my deck reinforced, everything wired up, filled up, and powered up, I get error code "SA" on the display immediately after the self diags.
Reading the manual, I see that SA or SB both mean that the system is shut down due to a sensor problem.
I read the Balboa service manual relating to the error. The service manual suggested swapping SA and SB sensor connections to see if the display would then switch to "SB", indicating a possible failed sensor. I turned the GFI back on, expecting to see "SB"... Instead I saw "Pr" suggesting the system was going through its priming mode.
I did not want to run the spa with the connectors reversed, so I powered the GFI off and swapped the connectors back to the correct order.
So my questions are...
1) What's causing this?
2) Is it possible that the connectors were improperly reversed to begin with, and I "fixed" it by swapping them around?
3) Is there even a particular order? I understand that the purpose of having two sensors is to discover if there is a "major" temperature variance between the two, but I'm not sure if it matters which is plugged into which connector. Currently, the SA port goes to the sensor on the left of the heat exchanger, and the SB port goes to the sensor to the right. This is how I received the unit, so it's how I've left it after the above test.
I will be calling my dealer about this obviously, but I have a feeling it will be a few days before they can get out there. Since I have a moderate electronics background I thought I would first check in here and see if it's something simple.
Thanks all!

Update to this...
Read the service manual further to determine how I could read the output of the sensors, since my multimeter's battery is dead... Found the "test mode" jumper, so powered spa down, inserted jumper, and powered back up. Spa started priming with no error, so I shut GFI off, pulled jumper, and turned power back on. To my surprise the system started priming and has been heating ever since. Not sure how/why this fixed it but it's been working fine so far. Water is heating up at about 6-7 degrees an hour as the salesguy said. |
