changed the water in our spa, then the spa heater was working fine then about 86 degrees it started to flash 114 degress or higher and that was impossible the spa was only on for a few hours it must have gone crazy any how now the led reads - - - - what does that mean and how can we fix it ourselves or is it possible? I know that - - - - means watchdog but what went wrong with the heater or blower ? |

It is possible that the over temp limit sensor, often located in the heater thermowell, has gone bad. From my experiance when the heater gets an air pocket in it and you try to heat it up, the temp goes way off scale very fast since there is no water flow. If it goes high enough it will go into "watchdog" mode where it recognizes a major problem and shuts the whole system down to prevent a major failure. I would check to make sure you have plenty of waterflow through your heater housing, and if you do, I would check your over limit swith and the cord all the way to the connector. You can test it with a multitester, but I am not sure what a "good" reading would be in your situation.
Hope that gives you a good place to start
Good luck |
