| 1994 Sundance Rio control problem with h/s side of pump. |
When engaging the high speed side of the pump I get a loud buzz and then it shuts down the pump completely (not the whole tub just the pump). After doing a little tracing and whatnot I found that the low speed side of the pump is being powered continously whether or not the timing cycle is active or not. However, if I shut off the breaker and then turn it back on then The pump sits idle for a few seconds then turns on to low speed. I am thinking that it I need to replace the control board but I was wondering if there might be a sensor that is causing the low speed side to stay active all the time. Any ideas?
Thanks in any help, JB |

Re: 1994 Sundance Rio control problem with h/s side of pump.
Hey JB,
I have a 1996 Sundance Suntub with Exactly the same symtoms. The problem seems to be that the low speed circuit doesn't shut off when the High side circuit kicks in. This causes the motor buzz and after a few seconds the overload shutdown.
I fixed mine by swapping relays on the circuit board. There are two pump relays on my board (marked K3, K4) and two more marked K1 and K2 which drive the Lamp and Blower. All the relays are identical and since I don't have a blower on my tub I switched the pump relays for the Lamp and Blower relays.
Now the low speed circuit runs and when I press the jets button the motor kicks up and runs normally. The relays are soldered in though so you'll need to unsolder them to swap them around or have it done somewhere. Still it is a lot cheaper and faster than ordering a new control board.
By the way, if you want to check the low and high speed circuits in the motor you can do that by unplugging the spade connectors from the control board and connect them individually to the line and neutral circuits coming into the junction box (and after the line fuse). Be very careful if you do this though, because you could arc a bare wire to ground, OK.
Hope you get your tub going. " title="Very Happy" />

Re: 1994 Sundance Rio control problem with h/s side of pump.
Sure enough. The K3 relay was frozen closed. Sealed relay. Checked it woth an ohm(power off " title="Laughing" /> ) meter and discovered that even when not powered the ciruit was still closed. Mine has a blower and lamp so I didn't want to swap a relay instead I tapped it a few times and voila the relay opened. I have one on order and if need be I will change it out later but so far absolutely no prob. Thanks for the assist.
