Air blower always on

I have a 1996 (or 1997) Sundance Marin. It has a (Balboa?) circuit board and 2 jet pumps and an air pump. My problem is the air blowers will not shut off, they are stuck on high. Everything else works fine. The problem occured after 2 big power surges while the blower was running. I was able to turn the blower off by removing the blower fuse from the circuit board, if I reinstall the fuse the blower comes back on high regardless of the switch position indicator. The blower switch seems to be working as the electronic display shows all 3 phases (off, low, high indicated by symbols of bubbles) of blower operation on the display as the button is pushed. I'm afraid the circuit board was zapped by the power surge but I don't want to throw a board at it especially if there is another way to fix it. I see what appears to be relays on the board and I suspect that the problem may be with one of them. Are they relays, are they changeable without replacing the board or do I have another problem my limited electronics knowledge doesn't know? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Blower

Hi ProWrench,

It sounds as though the "Triac" chip is toast. A triac steps down current to the blower to offer the three speeds for the blower. Since it is fed 110v. constantly, it now can't hold back the current. I only know of board replacement as a fix. Maybe some one else in here can offer a fix.

replace the triac...mine is doing the same thing triac is part number Q4010L5

I would try that before replacing the pack and or board

I would have to agree with the suggestion for replacing the TRIAC. It is not hard to do if you have any experience soldering or know someone who does. It solved my problem and now my blower is working properly. Good luck!!!

If you don't feel comfortable replacing the part yourself, take the board into your local tv repair shop, and tell them that the triac for the blower needs to be replaced. Any decent e-tech can figure out which one from there.
