Balboa 2000 LE Panel and Board Unresponsive

Hi. Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give as much info as possible, so please bear with me. I have a balboa 2000 le circuit board with a standard 7 digital controller. After an overfill, the display read OH and tripped the GFI. I emptied out some water and flicked breaker back on. The jets fired up, but the display flicked back to OH and the jets shut off. When I reset the breaker again, I heard 2 “clicks” from the control panel and then all went dead. I thought that perhaps it had gotten wet with the overflow, and opened the cabinet to let dry. That was four weeks ago – it still won’t start. When the breaker is switched on, the control shows a random display for about 1 second and then flashes one bar erratically for a few more and then nothing. I disconnected all auxiliary equipment (ozonator, stereo, etc.) and checked the fuses on the board; they all appear fine. One time, when I attempted to trouble shoot, the display looked like it was going to start up – it even displayed temp – but then I heard the 2 clicks again, and it went out. This hasn’t happened again. My dealer is out of business and their factory is not honouring any warranties – too bad for me, I guess <img src=" title="Crying or Very sad" />. As it still drops below freezing ay night, I put the floating heater I use for my horse trough in the tub and a ceramic heater inside the cabinet to prevent freezing. I read in one of your forums that it may be the high limit sensor. How do I check this? Can it be bypassed for a check, or does it have to be replaced? I also read that the problem may be with the controller and that it can be bypassed or “tricked” into resetting itself. How (I need the "Dummies" version)? Any other suggestions? Where can I find a manual? ANY help would be most appreciated - Thanks

Hey Guys and Girls I've been all through this forum and I am really desperate for some fresh ideas. I disconnected everything, checked the fuses, looked for obstructions, reset the switches on the side of the board, fiddled with the pressure switch, disconnected and reconnected the temp sensors, hit it with a hammer, and pulled the topside out for inspection (what I hoped to find, I don't know). Last night I tried bypassing the pressure switch with a jumper wire --- nothing. Why don't they just make a reset switch (you know, like Ctrl/Alt/Del)? I even contacted Balboa and asked for access to their application notes. They wrote back recommending I get a tech out to check the heater and board. Oh my God. It's just that simple... why didn't I think of that? First: If I had $$$, that would have been my first plan of action. Second: I'm 120 km (drop the 0 and multiply by 6... that's 72 miles) from the nearest tech (can you say "mileage charges?" - I guess that actually falls under "First," doesn't it?) Third: I really don't WANT to pay to fix something that should be under warrantee! (that just falls under "Plain Cheap" To be honest, I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but I am smart enough NOT to fry either myself or my equipment, and I really need some help or the next tool I try might be a chainsaw <img src=" title="Mad" />. So, in my desperation for a nice relaxing soak under the stars, I thought maybe some more info might help.... 1. Make: Polar Spa, 811 Cyclone, purchased 2004 2. Power: Dedicated 50 amp, 120/240 v GFI 3. System: Balboa 2000 LE - 4 wire 4. Topside Control: Balboa Standard 7 digital 5. Pump Configuration: 2 Waterway 56, 5 HP, 2-Speed Jet Pumps, 230V each (pump 1 is also circ pump) 6. Thermostat: Digital - built into topside control 7. Heater: Balboa 240 v 2" Stainless Flow Thru, 15" long (only has one sensor - high limit) 8. Ozone: Balboa - tube - plugs into board 9. No blower I hope there's someone out there who can walk me through this.

That's not a sensor problem, something else happened. You need to replace the board or the controller altogether. Recommended replacement at this point would be this: http://spapartsnet.com/Spa-Packs-Contro... 8_3_1.html For that price that's the least you can get away with and control everything you've got there. Sorry I wish it was easier than this, but that control board has gone fubar totally. Only thing less $$ at this point would be to replace the board (possibly around $250). You'll need to call us at 813-235-4574. Hope this helps, but either solution is cheaper than a 72 mile one way set of service calls to get it fixed. Call us, we can walk you through everything.

Well, I did manage to figure out what the problem was. I took the breaker apart and what do you know - the wires were all fried and the casing was melted. There was just enough juice to give a partial display and fool the tester, but not enough to actually make it work.

New breaker - $200.00.

Used breaker off of Ebay - $65.00.

Guess which one I went for?

Moral? When installing your GFI, make sure the wires are set in the posts tight.

I hope this resolution might help someone else with the same problem.
