I have a powermaster PM3002 Series digital spa controller. Without warning or apparant reason, my topside controller (PM3002 aka ACC KP2020) lit up, meaning that every segment of every digit and every indicator l.e.d. lit up and stayed on. It looks like a bunch of "8"s with the other l.e.d.s lit up, too. The Spa stopped working. Of course, I've cycled the power, checked for voltage and continuity everywhere with a multimeter, looked for signs of damage (water intrusion, smoke, cracked solders, cracked componenets, anything). There are no signs of damage.
No here's the interesting part. If I unplug the topside controller, the spa begins to run normally. Normally meaning that it runs in maintenance mode. The pump and heater cycle on and off as needed to maintain temperature. It seems as if it's running on the data (filter times, etc.) that were last entered before the "8"s. If, while it's running, I plug in the topside control, it shuts down again. As soon as I unplug the topside control, it resumes "normal" operation. Of course the problem is, I can't run it without the topside control. Itis just maintenance mode. I can't turn the pump on at will and can't turn it on "high" because I can't plug in the topside control without all "8"s.
Also, if I press the buttons on the topside control, the "8"s change to other illegible characters. They change back to "8"s when the buttons are released. Of course, their function is gone. Depressing the buttons has no effect on the operation of the spa.
It seems to me that the topside controller is the culprit. I'm looking for someone more knowledgeable than me to give me enough confidence to replace it. I can't afford to play hit or miss with these parts being so expensive. Any input or similar experiences and outcomes would be appreciated. |
