| 1995 Gatsby GFCI breaker tripping intermittently 5-30 mins |
This is a 120/240 set up as 240, a new GFCI and wiring set up by a electrican. When the Black red white and bare(ground) leads are all hooked up the breaker trips instantly. With the bare(ground) wire disconnected the unit will run all components normally for 5-30 mins then the GFCI breaker will trip. Does the bare wire have to be grounded in the control panel for proper operation and if so does this tripping indicate a problem with a component? Thanks for any input. |

Re: 1995 Gatsby GFCI breaker tripping intermittently 5-30 mins
I would contact your electrican and have him come back and re do or look at the problum.
Sounds to me as if something is not wired right.
and yes your ground wire needs to be hooked up in the spa pack, pump motor and to your gfci and to the breaker box. If it is not and something goes wrong you could harm or kill the people in your tub and your home.
I would say you need to have your electrican fix the problum.
Can you post some pics of the wires hooked up in your spa box? and also the wires hooked up in your GFCI and in your main breaker box? make sure you kill the power to everything befor you remove the covers/lids.
This could help me see what might be wrong and I could help you better. |

Re: 1995 Gatsby GFCI breaker tripping intermittently 5-30 mins
OK thanks for the reply, the wiring on the GFCI is correct, its the wiring in the spa control box that Im really skeptical about. I changed the main terminal so black is to black the red to red and ground to ground. The only problem is the neutral wire is missing from the main terminal to where ever it goes(pic attached). I think the last guy was running it 3 wired unprotected off a normal breaker with nuetral to ground. Where is the neutral white wire supposed to go to from this terminal block? This is best seen in pic 35, the nuetral from GFCI goes to a blank terminal. 2nd pic the instructions panel shows a 5 post terminal, back to picture 3935 theres only 3 posts on the terminal? Where are the other 2 the instructions talk about? There is 1 other wide view pic. I just want this thing to run and be safe. and yes the heater wires are disconnected. Thanks so much for your help |

Re: 1995 Gatsby GFCI breaker tripping intermittently 5-30 mins
Yeah, it needs to goto one of the posts over here "I wrote on the photo you posted" however id like to see a better pic of the posts.
Can you get me a batter close up of the posts and a more clear un fuzzy photo of the whole box again? mabye move/hold the wires down or aside as much as possible fropm the posts? cause from what im looking at now it looks as if your wires are backwords and on the wrong posts. a better pic will help me clear this up.
I think I see what im looking for but want to be sure, looks like you want to send the white to the post above the
cause it looks as though your red and black wires going to the posts are backwords, and you neutral"white" needs to goto the one above the red wire once you switch them to the way they should be"assuming the wires from your breaker box to your gfci to your spa control box are the way they should be, red to red, black to black, white to white, ground to ground", should go black red white starting at the bottom post.
If you get me a more clear photo of the posts with the wires pushed aside I can draw on your photo and show you what im talking about if i am not explaining it well " title="Smile" /> sorry.
I posted a photo for you with the gen idea of what im talking about. |
