2001 hot Spring Prodigy keeps tripping heater overlimit

I have a 2001 Hot springs prodigy tub with a no fault 6000 heater. I came home last night to find it had tripped the heater and so as per the instructions I unplugged the tub for 30 seconds and reset the ground Fault reset and plugged it back in only to have it happen again. I tried then to push the reset on the heater and did it again, only for it to trip once the temperaure came up.

I had a similar problem last summer and found that my circulating pump had died. I replaced it and did not have the problem again till now. The odd thing is the pump is working fine. Thered are two places where the pumped water comes out. One is a 1/4 line right next to the filters which is flowing just fine and the second is, after going through the heater, the heated water comes out of the floor to heat the tub. I have flow through the small line but do not see any flow out of the floor, althogh i do see hot water wafting out the floor exhaust I do not see any water being being pushed out and because the water is not being circulated through the heater to exhaust that is why the breaker keeps tripping.

It seems like the pump is working but not making it through the heater back to the tub. It seems like a pretty easy trip through the heater, why isn't the pump circulating through the heater?

HELP I live in the Northeast and it is 10 degress out and I fear the tub freezing up if I can't get the water to heat.

Which high limit?

There's a physical button on the heater, and then there's the electronic hi-limit. When the hi-limit on the heater trips, everything continues working, no flashing lights, no loss of power, just no heat.

When the electronic high limit trips--> loss of jet's, and a flashing red power light. If the electronic heater high limit is tripping, and you have good circ pump flow, try replacing the hi-limit thermistor (38416)

Swine,

Thanks for getting back to me. Yes I believe your right it is a 2001. I know for a fact that it is a no fault 6000.

It is the electronic high limit. Pump circulating continues to flow and the red light is flashing. I know the pump is working as it is pushing water out the 1/4" pipe but I don't see any water out of the floor drain exhaust.

I took the output hose off the pump and put a garden hose on it and ran some hot water into the hose running into the heater and I saw water come out of the floor, hitched the pump back up and again water from thr 1/4" but not through the hole in floor? Without the water running through it once again tripped the electronic breaker. Stumped????????

WTF

Are you using a PH buffer? You might have a ton of hardness that has clogged up the heater, forcing water through the 1/4" bleedline (between the circ pump and heater). Try taking the heater out and shaking it up a bit, see if anything falls out. Are your filters good and clean? (dumb question, but it's really the first one that needs to be asked <img src=" title="Laughing" /> ) Assuming the circ pump is good, it sounds like a blockage. Remove the grill on the drain cover, and feel for hardness there too (a small hole is on the side of that fitting, you'll feel it) It's also possible the circ pump is failing.

The pump is new and seem strong to push with the force it is out the 1/4" line. I don't see any scale on anything. How do you remove the grill?

Thanks

Unscrew, counter-clockwise. The grill too may be clogged with hardness.

Do you have scaling problems, or use "PH buffers" that "magically" balance the PH?

I've seen one instance where the no fault heater had enough scale buildup in it where it significantly reduced the circ pump flow. Was experiencing a similar flow dilemma.
