| GFCI on Hot Spring Sovereign Spa 1994-95 Tripping |
I have a constant problem with my spa. I just moved it from NY to WI and on startup it worked great for about 2 days. Then I went out and cranked up the jets to get into the tub and the GFCI tripped. Tried resetting it and nothing.
The whole pump housing is nice and dry. To try and narrow everything down i unplugged from the control module the pump, the silent flo and the heater, tried resetting the gfci again and instant trip. So i took the control panel out and unbolted the main control unit dropped it out of the frame opened it up to make sure there was no corrosion in it. Nothing and dry as a bone. To be extra sure i disconnected the spa light and tried resetting it again, nothing.
At this point i wanted to make sure the unit even powered up so i removed the GFCI and put a non GFCI 20amp plug on it and reconnected the 3 components and plugged the spa in. Everything worked just fine. So i know the Hot Springs circuit breakers were functioning right.
I also checked the wire for corrosion, and found nothing. Could the problem be the GFCI plug itself. If it is then im just going to put a Square D QO GFCI breaker into my panel and call it a day, better anyway.
What does everyone think. |

The problem could indeed be the GFCI. No issues removing it, as long as you're plugged into a GFCI protected outlet, and you remember the GFCI has been removed if the spa is ever moved or sold.
Good luck! |
